Successful volunteering with Natures Gym

The Friends of Palewell Common had a vey successful volunteer day on the morning of 19 March.   Eight volunteers turned up to work with Nature’s Gym, Richmond’s nature conservation contractor to plant new native wild flowers in the orchard area on the playing fields.  We started at our regular time of 10.00 and finished by noon.
We started by clearing the grass from about a dozen small areas for the new plants to give them a better chance to grow through.  We had a large number of established wild flower plants – red campion, field scabious, devilsbit scabious, meadow cranesbill and cowslip.   We also had a number of native daffodils to add to those we had planted previously which were coming into flower.
