Ibstock Place School Christmas Market Saturday 12th November, 11am – 3pm

This is a Christmas Market that I always look forward to every year and the fact it is hosted by one of our lovely local schools, even better.

You know the place, the time, the date, tickets are £2 per person and all welcomed, the more the merrier!

This year there will be over 90 stalls, many new so you won’t necessarily see the same thing again.  If you come with hungry tummies don’t expect just the usual yet well known BBQ, you will also find also Filipino street food, hot soup, crepes and a wonderful new cake stall, yum!

Hot off the press!  There will be an ice rink this year, advanced tickets for certain time slots have gone however there will still be a few available on the day.

If skating, shopping, eating or socializing isn’t your thing then there will still be the usual rodeo reindeer, laser tag and bouncy castle and a variety of stalls which will appeal to children or even adults young at heart.

See you there

Artisan’s Donation Day Asks London Coffee Lovers To Help Raise £10,000

South West London Coffee Company To Raise Funds For Ugandan Community Who Inspired The Business’ Success.

Fans of South West London coffee company Artisan can help the company raise funds for the small community in Uganda which inspired its success.  On Wednesday 7th September, customers of their Putney, Stamford Brook, East Sheen and Ealing sites will not be charged but instead asked to donate straight into the charity buckets.  Owners Edwin and Magda Harrison helped build a community college whilst volunteering in Uganda, which inspired them to write their business plan which today results in four coffee shops and a training school.  The event is a way to give thanks by raising £10,000 which will extend the college building and accommodate more students.

Even the coffee industry has kindly backed the efforts to raise funds for the local community in Uganda, donating their supplies free for the day including Allpress (coffee), Allan Reader (milk/diary), Seven Seeded (pastries and bread) The Artisan Bakery (muffins) and Cake Lovers Ltd (cakes).  Finally Artisan’s own staff will donate their time and work for free for this event across all four sites in Putney, Stamford Brook, Ealing and East Sheen in a solid effort of collaboration and charity.

“Seeing the coffee growing process first-hand and the challenges faced by the poorest communities in Uganda, we were inspired to dream and think big!” says Artisan owner Edwin Harrison.  “We developed and planned the vision for Artisan and we are truly humbled by its success.”

“We hope our loyal and wonderful customers will help join us as we pay thanks back the roots of our inspiration, and continue the work to provide education and training to those in much need.” Edwin continued.

The proceeds will go directly to a small local community charity – LIDEFO (Liberty Development Foundation) whose aim is to economically empower people and offer quality services that enhance income-generating activities and sustainable rural livelihoods.  Artisan owners Edwin and Magda Harrison undertook a year’s voluntary work with the charity to develop a sustainable business model to train local beekeepers as well as help raise money and build Liberty College.

From one class outside a tree and 30 students to four teaching rooms on their own property and over 300 students, the college offers occupational opportunities for the youth and women aged between 18-30 providing them with certificates and diplomas in various fields such as journalism, accountancy, catering and hotel management and tourism to name a few.  The funds raised from Artisan’s Donation Day will help build another storey and four classrooms on top of the existing build which will accommodate a further 200 students.

Kew Horticultural Fair

The Kew Horticultural Society will be holding their 72nd Annual Summer Show on Kew Green, today, Saturday 27th August.

It is one of the few shows in a marquee, with a traditional village atmosphere. Although vegetables, fruit and flowers play the major part, there is something for everyone – photography, arts and crafts, cookery, and special classes for children. There are many stalls, a lively jazz band, a barbecue and a tea tent. Any profits from the show will go to local and horticultural charities. (As quoted by the Kew Horticultural Society)
