It’s Fair Time

Do any of you live near or in London?  Or perhaps you are wondering this Saturday what you and or the children might do?

If you have answered yes to any of these then I have the answer for you.

Come to the Fair!

Barnes Fair is on tomorrow, Saturday 11th July 2015,  9.30 – 5.30.

It is a fabulous event, not only hosting over 300 stalls, attracts around 25,000 visitors each year but has events for children, entertainment and much, much more.

Barnes Fair 2015

The stalls have absolutely everything you could think of, lots of arts and crafts, accessories, food, homeware, jewellery, the list is endless.

I have been going every year as a customer and it is one of my highlights of the diary, but this year I am exhibiting, woohoo I am so excited.

I will be in the Old Sorting Office Arts Centre, 49 Station Rd, London SW13 0LF

OSO Arts Centre Barnes

If you do pop by, please make sure to come in the Old Sorting Office and say hello to me.  There is a cafe inside, so you can take some respite, have a cuppa and peruse the many artisan stalls away from the blazing sunshine as it is proposed to be a sunny, sunny day.

On a side note the Eclectic Odds n Sods shop will be closed for the day, as I will be taking a lot of my stock down to sell.

I invite you to take another peek at the shop just incase you want that essential item, many items being one off that I won’t be able to get again:

Eclectic Odds n Sods

If any of you have had your eye on something and cannot get down there, waste no time and drop me a comment or email at eclecticoddsnsods@gmail.com before tomorrow (Sat), if you want me to set it aside, because it might have gone by Sunday!

If you want to read up on 2014 Barnes Fair to see what it was like, please click here:  Barnes Fair 2014

If you wish to see a full post of what I sell (though I will do one on here later), please click here:

We have a local tea expert who retails personally blended tea!

I went the other day to the Duck Pond Market in Richmond.  It was there that I discovered a Tea Specialist.  I was super thrilled to also discover that this particular specialist was  named Freeda who owns the Monkey Char Tea business.

She is a local!

What a discovery for a tea addict like me to find someone local?  She ethically sources and personally blends loose leaf teas from all around the world.

This particular tea I got is a limited edition Chocolate Tea and I can that everyone who has come over has done a “oooh” and a “aaah” and a “wow I must get that” comment/sound when trying it.

You can find out all about Freeda’s teas here, I really recommend them from the experience I have had so far:  Monkey Char Tea

So this tea contains black tea, cocoa nibs, cocoa beans, flavourings and sunflower petals.  It looks great too!

  • As most of you will know the recommended guidelines for getting great tea is to always use fresh water when boiling.
  • Freeda recommends 1 heaped teaspoon per person to a 240ml cup.
  • With black Tea one should heat the water until boiling and infuse for 3-5 minutes.
  • I used this tea more than once so it’s great value too.

You can smell the chocolate, a rich, not sickly, deep aroma that permeates through your nostrils as you lift the cup, really enticing the tastebuds before you actually get to taste anything.  It is really heavenly.

It’s very hard to describe the taste, you get a hint of the black tea, and it’s almost like a vanilla chocolate taste, very mild, though there is no vanilla in it.  It’s subtle and elegant.  One that is easy to drink yet infuses one with a sense of richness as one does.

Visual Evidence

If you are a tea lover like me, pop along to Freeda’s web shop, she even personalises some teas for special occasions and has won some awards, go take a peek!

Apple and Bees Health Food Shop’s new juice bar review!

Apple and Bees Health Food Shop’s new juice bar review!

It is not unknown for me to pop weekly in to our lovely local health food shop, Apple & Bees to buy my favourite night time drink, Tea Pigs Rooibos Creme Caramel Tea.   Yes a real treat as it is a tea that does not contain caffeine.

However after having seen the Instagram pic from East Sheen Village mentioning the new juice bar, I could not help myself but ‘pop’ by again today on my way around on my Saturday shop.

Now I have recently bought a Nutri Bullet and been experimenting not only on myself but the kids.  So I was super keen to see how a green juice would taste from the experts.  I have already tried a home made one with spirulina, but it ended up smelling rather like pond weed which wasn’t attractive.  So when being offered two types available this day, one containing spirulina the masochist must have come out in me as I said “yes I will have one of those”.

Green Smoothie

Green Smoothie

I gingerly opened it up as I got out of the shop and there was an audible “phew” as there were no traces of pond anywhere.

It was utterly delicious and quite a cocktail.  It is a coldpressed juice containing Spirulina, apple, cucumber, celery, lemon, broccoli, kale, spinach, ginger, chlorella, wheatgrass and barleygrass.  I will definitely be trying this one again.

It’s a great way to have that healthy fix in the day, especially when you are on one of those lows that catch us mid afternoon, or to boost your immune system after all the cold bugs the kids bring home, or indeed to get a bottle in to your kids bag on the way to school when they won’t eat breakfast.

Let me know what you try if you pop along there to quench your thirst.

Happy Weekending, Justine x

I visited the Cavan Bakery, what a lovely affair!

I visited the Cavan Bakery, what a lovely affair!

Most of you will know that the Cavan Bakery opened up at 51 Sheen Lane.

There was a wonderful write up from the Richmond and Twickenham Times about their opening weekend, where they gave away 500 FREE loaves, you can see the write up here: Cavan Bakery Opening Weekend

However unfortunately I did not get there at the weekend but made an impromptu visit today (Monday).  I was extremely pleasantly surprised.  Firstly what caught my eye being a very novice baker myself is that they sell a wide variety of flours for all your wonderful home-made creations.

Then in the window you will see the usual sticky tempting treats, which got my son slowing up as he passed the window.

The welcome was cheery, bright and genuine.  I came in with a wealth of questions about their breads, all of which were answered.

I walked away with a Bath Bun and a Rye Bread, both reasonably priced.

As you can see the bun did not last long, was light and sweet, the bread oh boy though, usually I am not a huge fan of Rye but know the benefits of eating it.  This however was on a different level, apparently it has a little bit of white added to it, lightening it up and this works a treat, it was so flavoursome and soft.

I will definitely be back for another loaf!

My son kept saying “wow they are a good bakery mummy”.  I have to agree!
